Invitation to attend Seminar on IRRIGATION SCAM on 4th May 2012
3rd May 2012
DAM SCAM SEMINAR   On 4th May 2012, IAC Mumbai is bringing together people affected by Dams and activists who are working relentlessly against dam scams in Maharashtra. Speakers from various organizations, social groups, activists, environment experts, geologist, and seismic experts will come together to formulate a strategy to counter this rampant corruption.   You are invited to attend this seminar and join hands to fight this corruption.   On:  4th May 2011  2 pm to 5 pm    At:  Karnataka Sangha Hall, Vishwarshiya Smarak Mandir,  Off T H Kataria Marg, Matunga Railway Station, Matunga (W), Mumbai.   We plan to come together on a common platform of protest against the humongous number of illegal dams mushrooming all over in Maharashtra. A study of these dams will bring to light all the irregularities, violations and high handedness of the Irrigation Department, which is ruining the life, peace, vegetation and livelihood of farmers of rural India.   SPEAKERS Surekha Dalavi - Shramik Kranti Sanghatan Mayank Gandhi - IAC Indavi Tupule - Shramik Mukti Sangatan Brian Lobo - Kashtakari Sangatana Parineeta Dandekar - SANDRP Mrs Anjali Damania - IAC Milind Thatte - Vayam   SPECIAL INVITEES Special invites have been sent to: Chief Minister – Maharashtra Dy Chief Minister  Minister of Irrigation Chief Information Commissioner – Maharashtra MMRDA – Rahul Asthana CIDCO     -   Officials from Irrigation department Contractors undertaking the dam contracts ( FA Group) Eknath Khadse – Chief of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis – BJP Superintending Engineer – Archeological Survey of India EE – Central Railway     Participating Sanghatans South Asia Network of dams rivers and people (SANDRP) Pune Kashtakari Sanghatana, Dahanu Vayam, Jawahar, Nashik Shramik Mukti Sanghatana, Thane Shramik Kranti Sanghatana, Pen Rashtriya Seva Dal, Karjat Mumbai Pani Dham Mumbai Pani Dhoran Shai Dharan Virodhi Sanghatana Samiti Middle Vaitarna Sangharasha Samiti Bombay Environment Action Group Jal Biradari ( Janak Daphtari) Renjindar Singh ( Water man) International Rivers’ (Samir Mehta)  CPI ( Commorade Bhudhar) THE SCAM     The projects are being raised under the pretext of  ‘drinking water’ and ‘water for irrigation’ and after completion of the project, a miniscule amount of water is actually coming for drinking purpose.  The water / dam project is either sold to SEZ’s, Industrial units or some Municipal corporations.    Fear is put into the minds of the farmers, false representations are made in police stations so that the villagers get scared. A tie up is made with local goons so that there is no retaliation on local front.  At the same time, the amount offered to the farmers is so meager that they are not willing to part with their land, they protest. Then by saying that they are protesting, they are not compensated for years together.    Modus Operandi of the scam: Dams are first shown as minor irrigation projects and cabinet approval is taken, the height of the same is increased on flimsy reason and cost is increased 6 to 8 times. No retendering done. Tendering process shows gross irregularities. No detailed study / survey done before initiating the project  No environmental assessment / impact on environment is done,  No seismic studies are done to assess if the river concerned is lying on major fault line. No permissions taken from the forest department No permissions are sought from any other concerned authority like railways, Archeological survey of India etc. Land acquisition process not done. Even the first notice is not served and work is started day n night as if there is no tomorrow.  All norms are flouted. Flow of certified rivers is blocked, equipment and machinery is used without RTO registrations and many more……. (ɔ) India Against Corruption Mumbai
Team Anna to organize national students camp in Delhi
20th Apr 2012
India Against Corruption (IAC) has planned a two-day camp in New Delhi next month for students from across the country to provide the youth a platform to share their ideas. IAC has asked all local chapters to make a list of students who have been \'actively\' involved with Anna\'s movement. All costs, except travel to the capital, will be borne by the IAC though a final decision will be taken at a meeting scheduled for Monday. IAC expects about 500 students from across the country to participate in this camp. Ankit Lal, one of the organizers and part of IAC Delhi, said, "The main reason for conducting the camp is to create a single platform for students across the country to interact with each other. We want to know what ideas they have for the movement and have a healthy interaction starting," he further said.
