IAC Mumbai Referendum Results
15th Apr 2012
India Against Corruption Mumbai carried out a 5 day referendum found that over 97 per cent of 28,000 people in Mumbai have backed Arvind Kejriwal on his stand that there are 162 MPs with criminal charges against them.   Mumbaikars were asked to answer to the query - "Who has insulted Parliament? The 162 MPs who have serious charges of murder, rape etc and MPs who throw chairs on each other, watch blue films, tear bills, display cash or Arvind Kejriwal who stated the above facts."   Arvind Kejriwal had in recent speeches raised the issue of pending criminal charges against 162 sitting parliamentarians.   "Of the 28,470 people polled, 27,672 people supported Kejriwal for his statement while 342 said that Kejriwal had insulted the Parliament with his comment. 456 people said both have insulted the parliament,” a member of IAC said. If you had participated in the referendum, thank you. Arvind Kejriwal\'s meet with Mumbai Volunteers
15th Apr 2012
Arvind Kejriwal met enthusiast volunteers in Mumbai on Friday, 13th April. He was addressing over 300 members of India Against Corruption (IAC) at Billawar Association Auditorium in suburban Santacruz in Mumbai on Monday. Alleging there are 16 "corrupt" ministers in the Union Cabinet, key Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the fight against such politicians would be revived soon by exposing them. Kejriwal also said that there is a need to strengthen the network of people to put up an aggressive fight over the Lokpal Bill.   "There is a need to strengthen the network among Anna supporters. An Anna sms card has started sometime back. Supporters buying the card, would be kept informed about Anna\'s movement, which ensures that the anger against corruption continues to fire up in the minds of the activists," he said.   He also made an appeal to the activists to create Anna Charcha Samuh (Anna discussion groups) to hold discussions at local level so that the activists can understand various issues raised by Team Anna.   "There are many people who are participating in the agitation, but they are yet to understand the Lokpal bill properly. I appeal to people to hold discussions at their local level, which will help them figure out various issues. They can also send us suggestions and feed back," he said.   "Only when we understand the issues, a revolution can be brought," he added. Blaming the media for the anti-corruption campaign gradually losing steam, he said in the race for TRP ratings, the media had initially covered Anna\'s agitation, but later "tried to kill the movement". IAC Mumbai volunteers are carrying out community work in PDS in an effort to reach out to people and empower them to fight for their right and against corruption. "If you want, you can involve yourself in solving local issues, but you should not divert your mind from Lokpal. Your primary focus should be Lokpal," Kejriwal said. IAC SMS Call Cards
17th Mar 2012
Dear Fellow citizen, Namastey!   We all know the battle that we fought together for better future of our country, and where our Jan Lokpal movement stands now. Repeatedly the government has been ignoring the citizen\'s demand for Jan Lokpal even after millions of Indians came out on the streets.  During that period of revolution, SMS played a critical role in mobilizing masses in Anna movement. However, it is quite expensive to send messages at regular intervals to crores of people. In order to recover costs from the people, the movement has launched an Anna card costing Rs 25 per annum. Anyone who buys this card will receive regular messages (on an average one message per day) for 365 days from Anna movement. The messages will update the people about movement, help mobilize people and help us to stay connected to people. It is a scratch card and works in the same way as a recharge card of any telecom company. These cards are going to be distributed through various channels including volunteers/supporters like you. Please let us know if you would like to be local distribution point for sale of these Anna SMS Cards? If you wish to be, then please reply to this email with your Postal Address and numbers of SMS Cards you would like to order from us. We would then reply with the bank account detail for you to make the payment of those many cards which would order. Once the payment is confirmed by you, we would deliver the Anna SMS cards at your doorstep. Looking forward for same enthusiasm and support from you this time also, please do not forget to send following details if you want to be local distribution point of Anna SMS Card: Your name and postal address: Mobile number: Number of cards to order:   Should you have any queries on Anna SMS Card objective, distribution etc, feel free to call/email me.   www.indiaagainstcorruption.org Thank you.   Regards, Dilip K. IAC join hands with other organizations
27th Feb 2012
Sadbhavana Sangh coordination with IAC (INDIA AGAINST CORRUPTION) organised a meeting of like minded organization viz. Bharat Swabhiman, Art of Living, Sarva Seva Sangh, Yuva and other front running NGO’s  who are fighting  against corruption. Meeting was held on IAC office. At Chakala Andheri and attended by the Top Functionaries of above noted organizations.             Objective was to bring the major NGO’s, spiritual movements on a common platform and formulate a loose, flexible structure which can take forward the Anti corruption crusade of shri. Anna Hazare. During deliberations a broad understanding emerged that there is a possibility of having such body which can have a two pronged strategy i.e. change in the system, by decentralization of powers and direct political intervention.             Forum stressed upon the need to approach the NGO’s like NAPM, YUVA and CORRO who are working on the field and fight their own battle against corruption, we must endeavor to align such forces to make our movement more effective & directional. Participants resolved to meet again in near future to farm up the strategy and give a final shape to the Architecture & Structure of proposed body.
18 Feb 2012 Report of Saturday Meetings
22nd Feb 2012
Saturday meeting held at Nanavati school on 18 th Feb 2012       -- Ravi Srivastava, Ms Roshni and Yogesh narrated their experiences / impressions of moderating, interacting with citizens/candidates at Jan sabha events organized at various wards.   Problems encountered while getting approvals from MBC and other statutory authorities, party officials/ candidates and Party politics etc.   -- Challenges/Problems of organizing Jan sabha event. -- Discussed about candidates caliber, attitude, cooperation, indifference, arrogance etc.   Points: Some candidates are not fit to contest and needed a helper to answer questions put to them.   Some admitted to party hopping as they did not get ticket. Others disclosed buying candidature on payment of certain sum. Majority did not have proper knowledge of legislature nor regulations and lacked governance or leadership qualities.   One candidate boasted about his influence with former Railway Minister and how he can arrange jobs to his supporters at Railways if elected. He was snubbed by the audiences who refused to vote for such candidate.   At one or two venues, no candidate showed up, however the crowd was given briefing about futility of electing such irresponsible candidates and also given information about BMC election process.   Dharavi, stronghold of Congress party suffered reversal as the voters rejected the party in spite of dole out temptations.   Almost all the candidates who attended the debate signed the affidavit without hesitation and agreed to abide by the commitment and interact with the peoples representatives at regular intervals.   In the end Ravi Srivastava summarized that the winners from this exercise are our Volunteers who gained valuable experience/confidence of interacting with various statutory authorities and Jan sevak candidates and can hold public events on their own with confidence in the future.   IAC has, thus created many mini leaders who can mature in to potential leaders and take up more responsibilities in the future Public events.   All the organizers of Jan sabha are requested to submit the original signed documents from the candidates and the CDs. This will be kept in the office for future reference.   2. TOPICS DISCUSSED BY MAYANK GANDHI.   Summarizing the recent BMC election results, where Congress coalition lost in Mumbai and other major cities is due to Anna effect and failure to address the Jan Lokpal bill.   Low voter turn out can be attributed to loss of confidence in the electoral process and lack of faith in the Governance.   Citizen were confused as to which Candidate/party is worthy of voting. If Anna had given a call would have been different with more voting percentage and Congress would have lost heavily.   Some parties paid huge sums to organized groups through agents to the extent of Rs. 5,000/6,000 per vote. There was free flow of liquor, partying to lure voters.   He informed the gathering, strategy for next (2017) MBC elections.   To prepare for the next election with immediate effect interacting with all the 70 odd loosing candidates from citizen group and prepare them for the next election. A meeting with all above will be arranged soon.   Each BMC ward has 35,000 to 40,000 voters and divided in to 35 to 40 Polling booths with about 1100 people per booth. Each ward should have 35 to 40 Mohalla sabha volunteers and urge people to select their own candidate (Pratinidi) under Lokshahi by 2017. Thus creating one crore strong people force.   Mayank Gandhi further initiated an exciting debate by proposing following 3 options to counteract as a measure to put pressure on the Government at the centre and invited suggestions from volunteers.   1. Carry on with present method of activism which is slow and steady and may take several years before an effective jan Lokpal bill finally takes shape after going through several amendments in the Parliament. He cited the independence movement against British raj which took more than 30 years to fructify.   2. Give a call through Anna in the 2014 Lok sabha election, to campaign against Congress / UPA Candidates as IAC did in case of Hissar by election.   3. Register IAC and float a party at national level and fight election independently in the 2014 loksabha election with own chosen candidates.   Many arguments, opinions and suggestions were heard and there was serious debate for and against options 1, 2 and 3 and finally all the options were put for voting (winning option will be declared soon).   Option 1 is very slow and people have no patience to wait for such a long time and the movement will loose steam and die down eventually.   Join other NGO groups and collectively put pressure. However this may not have desired effect as is evident from past experience of Govt. backtracking on the promise given in writing.   Option 2 makes IAC as politically motivated group and open for attack from all quarters. IAC s clean image as a non political group will change and will be subjected to criticism.   The advantage is that ruling party may loose its majority and it will be easier to discuss about IAC agenda with other parties.   In case of option 3 there is no guarantee that IAC candidates may win by majority to exercise any influence over future Govt. Policies.  And IAC candidates may turn out to as corrupt as any other eventually. It was also suggested to restrict IAC candidates for one election only. After jan lokpal and other important bills are passed, IAC may disband as a political party.   Other suggestion was to field candidates for Rajya sabha and it will be easier to win more seats.   Ask Bhaba Ramdev to float a party and support him indirectly and influence other imminent personalities such as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and various religious groups, NGOs to combine and create a strong pressure group.   Organzse Chalo Delhi movement during next session of Parliament and continue to gherao till our demand is met for effective jan Lokpal.   Other suggestion was to demand for single point agenda of making CBI independent from Political parties influence; this alone could be effective to curb high level corruption.   Sadly, the discussion had to end due to time frame and ended with open voting on all the 3 options.   Mayank informed all the members that during his meeting with Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (19th) at Pune, all the proposals/suggestions will be conveyed and will be taken up at higher level.   Voting result— Option 1--  11 votes Option 2--  17 votes Option 3--  32 votes.   All the volunteers are requested to give suggestions and views to enable to reach conclusive concrete decision on the matter.   There is good news that Anna has completely recovered from his ailment and is in good health and is back in Ralegan Sidhi.
19 Feb 2012 Success of Ek Jodi kapda
20th Feb 2012
We at IAC-Mira bhayender had collected  a donation of old clothes ,toys and books under “Ek Jodi Kapda” campaign to be distributed In advaasi and rural ares of Maharashtra especially ares which are near Mumbai,we got a very generous response for everyone and managed to collect over 5000 jodis ok kapda, which was more than enough for  4-5 villages.we decided to distribute the same on 19thfeb as it was shivajimaharaj’s birthday.for this purpose the villages selected in the first phase were Aina,Dibhon and Ohiliwadi (dist Dhaanu).we at IAC do not feel that donations of any kind can solve the problems of people but as it was one of the coldest winters in the country and we needed something to break the ice with the people so that they can trust us with their problems we selected the donation of clothes.eight  IAC volunteers with the truck driver ,who was generous enough to offer his service to us for free on knowing the cause left for Dhaanu from Mira road station at around 8.30am. We reached there in less than 3 hours as the place is around 50-60 km from mira road station. The village sarpanch came to show us the way in tata indica.we had contacted a trust run by one of the IAC volunteers  to help and guide us locally and assist with the distribution. After distributing clothes in each of the villages we went inside their houses to know about their problems. ·         the villagers are severally malnourished as it can be seen. ·         the only thing they get to eat is a very poor quality of rice and rock salt ·         they don’t have any work, there is no irrigation system there and only is rainy seson they are able to grow rice in their land. ·         There is no hospitals the only primary aid center nearby is in Aina that is around 10 km from oiliwadi .There also only first aid is offered if there is a doctor. ·         There are 2 schools in the region but are only us to 3rd standard. ·         The biggest problem there is of liquor mafia, the villagers when do not have any job are forced to work at the liquor plant and in return they get some rice and liquor.most of the village men as well as women are drunk at all times and hence are not able to get steady jobs and are forced to work at suck places which has turned them into ZOMBIES. ·         There is a presence of a prominent nation political party in the region which has very strong ties with the liqure mafia or rather they go hand in hand and these people are remembered at the time of election and given some booze or sometimes things as Dish T.V. to vote for the same party again.and they feeling that they are useless people who cannot keep jobs feel happy for whatever they get and vote for the same party again. ·         We also spoke to some social workers in the region about the probable solution to this problem.they told us that there are many gov. schemes and these people are taking the benefit on papers but actually some authorities including the gov and political ones take the money ang get their thumb impression.According to him till the villagers are clear with their addiction noting can be done.Even if you get them cows or goats in the gov schemes they will sell it and buy a bottle of booze. ·         To stop this liquor mafia is not an easy task, they are political people who are into crime also. ·         We are really disappointed with the people who do not vote because they are also responsible for this mess of our country being made by the politicians and they choose to be mute spectators. ·         U.P. villages are also not the best places on earth but things are not this bad. Thougt of effect of Youvraj’s campaigning there is giving me jitters SAUMYA RITESH 9833383017

08 Feb 2012 Reality check on SC observation
3rd Feb 2012
On 8 February 2012 22:42, shailesh gandhi <shaileshgan@gmail.com> wrote: The Supreme Court in a RTI judgement* on August 9, 2011 made an observation which is affecting the minds of many Ministers and senior officials. The observation was, “The nation does not want a scenario where 75% of the staff of public authorities spends 75% of their time in collecting and furnishing information to applicants instead of discharging their regular duties. The threat of penalties under the RTI Act and the pressure of the authorities under the RTI Act should not lead to employees of a public authorities prioritising information furnishing, at the cost of their normal and regular duties.”   If 75% staff spend 75% of their time, it would mean 56% (0.75x0.75) of the total time would be spent on giving information. If this possibility ever comes about it would be scary and undesirable.   I decided to do a reality check. According to the most optimistic estimate not more than 1 crore RTI applications are likely to be received in 2012 in all the public authorities in the States and Central Government together. The average time to attend each RTI application would be less than 3 hours. This means no more than 3 crore hours spent by all officers. If we assume that an average government employee works for just 6 hours a day for 200 days a year, it would mean he would work for a total of 1200 hours in a year. 3 crore hours divided by 1200 hours is 25000 which means 25000 employees would be required full time. The Central Government and all State Governments have about 1.2 crore employees totally. This means that the total time spent by Government employees would be 0.208%. (25000 divided by 12000000=0.208%).   To put this in the idiom of the Supreme Court’s observation, no more than 4.6% officials are spending 4.6% of their time presentlyon giving information. The Supreme Court’s observation has no connection with reality.   *  Civil Appeal No.6454 of 2011 CBSE vs. ADITYA BANDOPADHYAY & ORS.

28th Jan 2012
Dear Friends in the Media ... Questions are being raised about the Public support for the IAC movement.
